One of the things that we sometimes forget when working with Microsoft Azure, is that VMWare is still a vital component of our client’s virtualisation and deployment strategy.
There are two main areas where Readiness can help with applications deployments in a VMWare environment:
- Application Isolation – ThinApp
- Application Virtualization with MSIX App Attach
Readiness was an early adopter of the VMWare ThinApp application isolation layering.
Readiness developed an automated assessment that examines each application for suitability to convert to the ThinApp format. I have attached a quick screenshot of the the algorithmic checks included in the Readiness automated assessment platform.

In addition to our automated, algorithmic assessment, we delivered an automated conversion and testing solution that uses the Readiness assessment report and then generates automated fixes. This generates a high-quality package fit for individual deployment (as a single EXE) and for larger enterprise distribution scenarios.
You can find out more about ThinApp here. And, VMWare has provided a nice video explaining how application isolation works with ThinApp found here.
One of the questions that we get is how VMWare works on Microsoft Azure. The simple answer is that Windows 10/11 Enterprise supports Windows Virtual Desktop (multi-session) and therefore you can use your Horizon Universal license to use and deploy App Volumes on Azure. VMWare has provided a great FAQ (pdf) document found here.
Our next posting will discuss VMWare App Attach and AppVolumes.
